Welcome to a space where the beauty of nature meets creative artistry. Here, you'll find unique photographs from Shetland and Lidingö, handcrafted wooden birds, books brimming with inspiration, and practical oven mitts – all made with love and care.
We have a deep affection for Shetland and its natural wonders. Every year, we travel to Shetland to visit friends, explore new places, and immerse ourselves in unforgettable experiences. After each journey, we publish a book. I, Ylva, write the text, while my husband, Eddie, provides the photography. In preparation for each trip, we train rigorously to hike across Shetland’s open landscapes with our gear.
As passionate nature enthusiasts, we dedicate time to researching and learning as much as possible before every journey. Our articles and photographs have been featured in Swedish Newspaper Dagens Nyheter (DN). This is not just a hobby – it’s our way of life.
This website is our first, and we’re excited to share our stories and blog posts with you.
Now, as we embark on our tenth journey to the Shetland Islands, we find ourselves increasingly captivated by its allure. With each visit, we’ve aimed to reach Foula, an extraordinary island north of Shetland. This year, on our tenth visit, we faced challenges getting a flight to the island.

Exploring Shetland’s Natural Wonders

We arrived in Shetland early on a sunny morning, and from the very first glimpse, we were entranced by its rugged landscapes. The sheer cliffs plunging into the Atlantic and the wild moors seemed straight out of a fairytale. On our first day, we hiked along the coastline at Eshaness, marveling at the dramatic rock formations and the ceaseless waves crashing against the shore.


Encounters with New Friends

One of the most memorable aspects of our trip was meeting incredible people. At a small pub in Lerwick, we had the chance to chat with locals who shared stories about Shetland’s culture and history. Among them was Tom, an elderly fisherman, who spoke of navigating the stormy seas and Shetland’s proud Viking heritage.
We were also invited to a traditional “Shetland fiddlers’ night,” where lively music filled the air, and we danced among the warm and welcoming community.


Birds and Beauty

For nature lovers, Shetland is a paradise. At Hermaness National Nature Reserve, we encountered abundant wildlife, including puffins and gannets gracefully soaring above the sea. Witnessing these magnificent birds up close was a true privilege.
And let’s not forget the iconic Shetland ponies! We came across these charming creatures roaming freely in the open landscape and couldn’t resist capturing countless photos. They are just as enchanting in real life as they are in pictures.


Memorable Events

During our stay, we experienced the thrilling local festival Up Helly Aa, a vibrant celebration of Shetland’s Viking heritage. The torchlit procession and the spectacular burning of a Viking ship replica were sights we will never forget.
We also took the opportunity to sail to Mousa Broch, an awe-inspiring Iron Age stone tower, deepening our appreciation for the region’s history and mystique.

Our journey to Shetland was a sensory feast, leaving us deeply moved. From the breathtaking natural landscapes to the warmth of its people and the unique cultural experiences, every moment of the trip was unforgettable.
